Food Inc : what is really behind your food

What is really behind this tasty food
http://goo.gl/0LwLWV

When I was the same age as you I begged my mom to buy me a happy meal almost every Friday. But there were things  I had to do first like do good in school and be good at home in order to get my mom to take me every Friday. As I grew older I started realizing that my whole purpose in going was for the toys they had  because I liked to collect the toys.
But what can really be behind all this food well let's find out.

In the documentary film food inc as a class we witnessed how food is really made. They also showed the reality of how they treat it before it is packaged in those beautiful packages that you see at the store, And the real thruth behind happy meals from McDonalds.

In 1950 when McDonalds was just a restaurant like any other. Later the Mcdonalds brothers introduced a new assembly line type of operation that made one person do the job and became easier to train and replace the workers.  The question is How do all restaurants get their ingredients to cook their food's and how is everything controlled.

As to this I learned that the percentage of American beef supply is controlled by four companies in a total of 80% . Especially how the names of brands and labels placed on meat and dairy products in the super market are  misleading because, in the movie it stated that packages in a way make you think that animals had a beautiful life and have pictures of them in a beautiful farm.  But there is at least two ways I learned how chickens are physically different now than they were in the 1950's now chickens are having big breasts  because they genetically inherit genes and also give them hormonal treatment that takes them 49 days to grow full.

While they were filming this movie Vince Edwards a chicken grower for Tyson, was not given permission to allow the filmmakers inside his chicken houses. The reason is that they didn't want the people to see the thruth of what is really behind meat and other products. Why is meat so cheap in the first place I'll will tell you why.

In the section of this movie called a cornucopia of choices  it told us about how about 30% of the United States land mass is used to grow corn explaining the role that government policy plays in making corn such a dominant crop. Because farmers are paid to overproduce food they grow corn and sell it at a cheap price. It also told us about why would the large meat suppliers would be interested in lobbying the government for subsidize for corn. This is because the government was paying to overproduce making higher profits the get really cheap corn to feed their animals at a low cost. For example three products that are partially made of corn are ketchup, coke, and twinkies. The movie also told us how cattle and other ruminants have evolved to eat grass, a problem that has emerged as a result of feeding corn to cattle instead  is because it makes them fat quickly. To get rid of really deadly  bacteria that goes into the meat something you get from heat excrement related so to this they will have to eat grass 5 days full to get rid of this bacteria that kills humans.

Another section from this movie is unintended consequences where Kevin kowwalcyk who died in 2001
of Hemolytic-Uremic syndrome caused by eating ground beef contaminated with E.coli the deadly bacteria and explained to us how the U.S government was somewhat responsible for Kevin's death. The movie told us that in August 1st they figured out about the virus and inspectors did nothing until august 27 so yes they were responsible for Kevin's death.

Some additive used in some meat fillers to prevent this E.coli contamination is a type of Ammonia hydroxide that helps kill the bacteria.

Another section was the dollar menu what kinds of foods are the cheapest why fast food products are
the cheapests why because they are made out of subsidize corn we give the government money to pay for corn production . How does obesity, diabetes, and poverty are linked because in a way medication for diabetes is expensive and what is left is to buy cheap food ( dollar menu ) type 2 diabetes is an abundant of too much salt, sugar, and fat.

This  section was about the grass according to the USDA Joel Salatin's farm who is considered "unsanitary" why ? Because it's noisy, smelly, and unsanitary but according to what he stated in the film during an interview they produce organic food no supplement is being added and they do care about their consumers, not care about how much profit they make.

Now I'll tell you how  large meat packing plants gets most of its workers it is thru NAFTA the North American free trade mark, they get the employees from Mexico because they have too pay them really low and they couldn't really tell what was going on because for them is a job money that they need but the companies sends police ice to pick them in their house and deport them back to Mexico. What is behind all of this....

Another section in this movie was hidden costs why might the cheap costs of industrial food be dishonest or misleading according to the movie it said that nothing is true about the foods  either
environmental, societal, and health cost. Another section was The veil how are food corporations protected by laws so they wouldn't get sewed these laws are not in the best interestet to their
consumers because what they really care about is making profit.

In conclusion we learned the truth behind our food and how some tags in the packages cause confusion in the consumers making them think the animals we get our meat from were raised humanly  as to this you might be confused on the next step you will take in regards of eating meat or not I hope this information was helpful.

This is a deadly bacteria that can be  caused by  unhealthy products

America's Food Supply

Perdue is a major chicken processing company based in Salisbury, Maryland, United States last year they made about 6 billion dollars. The third largest annually producing 59,320,000.
According to Nicholas Kristof and his article titled Abusing chickens we eat published by the New York times he states his argument saying that chickens should be treated and raised humanly its is also to show people that Perdue is a hypocrite because they are putting labels that are misleading. According to the evidence stated in the article that per dues chickens are being cramped so tightly and most shocking is that the bellies of the chickens are raw and flesh they became featherles and how they are now bred to have hugebreast. The best quote I found in the article doing "the right thing is things like treating your chickens humanely" I choose it because many people brag about doing the right thing but yet they stile need to keep in mind to treat the chickens humanely.  My opinion of this article changed my perspective in eating chicken yes it totally changed my perspective in eating chicken yes I would be more careful in choosing the food I eat.
People in 1906 in America had poor living conditions they had no control of safety food and had flies everywhere. How did the meat inspection act help Americans. It helped them to prevent adulterated or misbranded meat and meat products from being sold as foods and to ensure that meat and meat products are slaughtered and processed under sanitary conditions.

Public education and inequality

The reason for creating public schools was because they wanted to train the kids for a better job and have American citinzenship it was the key to a greater financial security and social status. Their was benefits of public schools but also problems like students being miserable not being able to go or not knowing the new rules. Public schools helped families offering them help with child care for employed mothers they took children out of factories and sweatshops they thought children how to read write do math and English language.  Schools also perpetuate inequality because equal opportunities differed sharply for black and white children and also religions having different schools for each race. Some other issues that schools had were is that some people resented replacing their native languages in favor of English catholics were especially concerned because many public schools systems had mandatory reading from the protest.

" what happened to the 43"

One night on September 2014 college students were ambushed the 3 buses they were stopped by the police in a town named Iguala in the state of Gerrero as a consequence 6 people were killed and who their is known 43 students were kidnapped and until now are missing.

Whom suspects known to demand and stop the 3 buses they were in were Jose Luis Abarca and his Wife Maria de los angeles pineda  who is the mayor  and his wife.

These students are from a school named the Ayotzinapal school whos mission was to teach people to rise up, train future teachers the students who attend are from families that live in poverty or they are farmers.

But who would of thought all this could of happen just because the government who is in power do not agree with the political beliefs of the ayotzinapal students is because their beliefs are not following what they have in place the Government does not want them to stand up by themselves and make them feel powerless.

The reaction of the mexican people to the missing students was anger towards the gov the people also confronted them with weapons because they had no choice and went in search for the students.

The government reaction towards the missing students was just abandoning the people.

The mexican president Enrique Pena Nieto also contributed to locate the missing students by signing a document promising the parents that the gov would look for students alive. and to make this even worse the governor of guerrero quit his job.

"How The Tycoons Became So Rich"

"How The Tycoons Became So Rich"

In my opinion I think the most important aspects of Carnegie's was important for them was to make a lot of profit. Who where the tycoons and how did they get so wealthy? The had a mind set for business they also had bad ethics which were bad for the consumers. The also attempted to control through vertical integration as much as possible, buying all the coal, iron, mines, railroads and more. What is a robber baron? is a ruthlessly powerful U.S. capital or industrialist considered to have become wealthy by exploiting natural resources. Like Rockefeller, Carnegie, Vanderbilt, Morgan. What is a social Darwinism and why would
Thomas Clark Durant made fortune of 16 million by monopolizing traffic in California.http://goo.gl/19ZN8b
rich men like the Darwinism philosophy. Darwinism described how species flourished and passed their traits on to a next generation while the other did not like it because they thought being rich was a sign of gods favor and being poor a sight of being lazy or inferior.
Cornelius Vanderbilt built         himself a fortune by selling most of his ships to the union navy and started his career of a railroad tycoon. Became the richest man in the whole world.http://goo.gl/Z7vd7K

The new technology and construction

In the reading compiled by Danny Blas technology helped america reach the sky. Technology also changed the way we recieve information dramatically. Technology also helped how people moved around by incorporating trains, subways, streetcars, bridges and bicycle paths. Technology has also change the way we read and learn since potography helped newspapers to become more efficient since they were printed out faster  and made it easy to learn because they were easy to access.
In the second reading compiled by Danny Blas that talks about passive houses. A passive house is an enviornmentally responsible house withouth traditionally heating and air conditioning. Passive houses are different than traditionally houses because they are more expensive. It is also good because it reduces the amount of enrgy up to 25 dollars a month. The reading also states that some residents living in expensive neighboorhood are against the new passive houses because they were jealous and did not want another class of people living with them . A quote that was incorporated in the reading was " they probably wanted something craftsman here" This means that the people who said the quote sarcastically wanted the same style of house in their neighboorhood.
As an overall technology changed the way americans live because they incorporated new innovative products and buildings took in mind all the safety regulations to be safe and create less pollution. Because back then they had no control of the pollution created by the factories nor building safety regulations and risked peoples health. having this new industrial revolution changed the lives of thousands of people Since there was a big economic effect and created alot of jobs for the people.

Argumentative essay

Gladys Cruz
Mr. Blas
Honors US History, Per,-4

During WW2 communication was not as easy as today, before people who were at long distance and tried to communicate had to write letters and wait 3-4 days to receive the message. Levi Kinsel is an example of how he communicated with his wife Rose Kinsel by writting letters. Levi Kinsel who worked in the U.S navy as a mechanic, was born in the year 1905. He was married to his wife Rose Kinsel. My classmates and i began working on a project for the last few days, regarding a storehouse of memory that contained letters written during WW2 by Levi Kinsel and were kept by Rose Kinsel. As a class we had to transcribe the letters because they were originally written in cursive ,we also had to write down information about what was going in order to create a profile about Levi Kinsel with the information we were given through the letters. My team mates and i came to a point on how we would describe Levi Kinsel according to the letters we had he was a very caring, busy and unhealthy person.  Other team mates may think differently about Levi Kinsel but the letters we got they sure describe the 3 characteristics we choose.

As a group we consider Levi a very caring  person because according to his letters we know by a fact that he cares alot about his wife Levi tries to write to her almost everyday. According to page number 34 wrote on March 27 -1944  he asks Rose " How are you doing down there?" I hope you got time and how is Alec doing with the paint?. Another example of Levi being caring is on page number 34 written on the 6th of April- 1944 in Astola ore he says " I don't see why you are doing all that hard work or so much of it all at once.... i was glad you had the house painted but you should have waited and have someone do it.

Another way we consider Levi is being a very busy man an example of this is on page 38 in the second paragraph written in ports mouth Virginia he says " I went through Arizona N.M, Colorado, Cans Missouri, Ohio and Val. I was really all the way to Colorado about 50 miles and then we went through Raton at 2:30 A.M..Another example is on the same page line 2 he says " I understand now that we leave here in a few days and go to sea for a few operations and then head to New York. Another one is in line 3 were he says '' Well i have been busy but still take time and  write you letters".

Levi is also described as unhealthy not the kind of unhealthy that can affect others but just in general like when he says in page number 32 in the first paragraph " I caught another cold and felt pretty bad Saturday so stayed out words and took some pills. Another example is on page number 30 in the first paragraph, " I have a pretty sore finger on my right hand when i was sharpening the butcher knife and cut it and my finger got infected".
In conclusion all these examples support what we think of Levi's characteristics describing him as caring, busy, and unhealthy man. Some other class mates and their teams may think different because they read different letters. But the letters my team and i choose were really straight forward and making us think that these 3 characteristics really describe how Levi Kinsel was, and not only we described how he is but what he went through just by trying to communicate with his wife.  Overall this was a very original and exciting project, because you learn something different by each letter we had to transcribe, and create a  personal profile of the writter based on the evidence given to us.
