During
WW2 communication was not as easy as today, before people who were at long
distance and tried to communicate had to write letters and wait 3-4 days
to receive the message. Levi Kinsel is an example of how he communicated with
his wife Rose Kinsel by writting letters. Levi Kinsel who worked in the U.S navy as a
mechanic, was born in the year 1905. He was married to his wife Rose Kinsel. My
classmates and i began working on a project for the last few days, regarding a
storehouse of memory that contained letters written during WW2 by Levi Kinsel and were kept by Rose Kinsel. As a class we had to
transcribe the letters because they were originally written in cursive ,we also
had to write down information about what was going in order to create a profile
about Levi Kinsel with the information we were given through the letters. My
team mates and i came to a point on how we would describe Levi Kinsel according
to the letters we had he was a very caring, busy and unhealthy person.
Other team mates may think differently about Levi Kinsel but the letters we got
they sure describe the 3 characteristics we choose.
As a group we consider Levi a very caring person because according to his letters we know by a fact that he cares alot about his wife Levi tries to write to her almost everyday. According to page number 34 wrote on March 27 -1944 he asks Rose " How are you doing down there?" I hope you got time and how is Alec doing with the paint?. Another example of Levi being caring is on page number 34 written on the 6th of April- 1944 in Astola ore he says " I don't see why you are doing all that hard work or so much of it all at once.... i was glad you had the house painted but you should have waited and have someone do it.
Another way we consider Levi is being a very busy man an example of this is on page 38 in the second paragraph written in ports mouth Virginia he says " I went through Arizona N.M, Colorado, Cans Missouri, Ohio and Val. I was really all the way to Colorado about 50 miles and then we went through Raton at 2:30 A.M..Another example is on the same page line 2 he says " I understand now that we leave here in a few days and go to sea for a few operations and then head to New York. Another one is in line 3 were he says '' Well i have been busy but still take time and write you letters".
Levi is also described as unhealthy not the kind of unhealthy that can affect others but just in general like when he says in page number 32 in the first paragraph " I caught another cold and felt pretty bad Saturday so stayed out words and took some pills. Another example is on page number 30 in the first paragraph, " I have a pretty sore finger on my right hand when i was sharpening the butcher knife and cut it and my finger got infected".
In conclusion all these examples support what we think of Levi's characteristics describing him as caring, busy, and unhealthy man. Some other class mates and their teams may think different because they read different letters. But the letters my team and i choose were really straight forward and making us think that these 3 characteristics really describe how Levi Kinsel was, and not only we described how he is but what he went through just by trying to communicate with his wife. Overall this was a very original and exciting project, because you learn something different by each letter we had to transcribe, and create a personal profile of the writter based on the evidence given to us.
